Falling asleep can be an ordeal. Millions of people have either chronic or episodic insomnia. And even if you don’t technically qualify as an insomniac, it can still be tricky to drift off easily.
You know what I’m talking about: just when your head hits the pillow, all of the anxieties from the day resurface as eagerly as cicadas after a 13-year submergence.
The mental health impacts from lack of sleep can be profound. So, for this World Mental Health Day, I’m posting a free sleep meditation from my friend, Sebene Selassie.
Seb is a maestro at sleep meditations. Which is interesting because, IRL, she is an utterly engaging conversation partner. And yet, she somehow also has a knack for knocking you out.
Seb also has other meditations available for free at danharris.com, including one to help you disarm your inner critic. And you should check out her own Substack. Highly recommended.
Some quick behind the scences on how this meditation came into being: my close friend, Glen Caplin, texted me to request a sleep meditation for his son, Nico. I asked Seb, and she responded immediately. Now I’m sharing it with you.
Enjoy.
xx
