OMG OK ALSO - on The Rolling Stones tip, there’s a documentary called Twenty Feet from Stardom about all the incredible black women who sang ‘back-up’ on those records, and some of their stories are mind blowing, esp for Gimme Shelter, you’ll never hear it the same. Great watch, big recommend!!! 10/10
Once you finish reading Lonesome Dove, watch the mini-series adaptation with Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones. It's really good and I rarely like film/TV adaptations of books I've enjoyed.
I saw them in Orlando and Van Halen opened, David Lee Ross came on and mooned the concert goers because some journalist had written something about him and he was in the crowd!
BTW, I loved last week’s book recommendation even though it broke my heart.
Lonesome Dove book and mini series are both awesome. Good choice. Love those Rolling Stones. Good song to spotlight. I don’t remember that movie. Will have to find and watch. Your Friday fixations are really fun to read. Thanks for these. Hosta la bye bye.
I loved the conversation with Judd Apatow. He was so open and honest. I like you, and him, deal with anxiety, and it made me feel so much less weird and broken. Thank you.
Thank you! You put your finger on one of the most important reasons we do this show: cathartic normalization. In other words, make it OK to be jacked up.
I giggled at the Lonesome Dove reference. I try to read a classic written by a Latinx author every year. One Hundred Years of Solitude is constantly on my rotation and I still have my freshman year copy I “purloined” (may we all be challenged with SAT and Bar exam words!) from my parents house a few years ago. 25 years and I still haven’t read my required reading. Dan, you have given me the nudge to open it back up.
@danharris, that’s a wonderful nostalgic fixation moment, perfectly suited for the Hollow Eve season, but in a much more delightful way. Thanks. By the way, I’ve noticed that I’ve added the word “Tratmajatara” to my reminders. I check it off every time I experience a “here and now” moment or day. I learned about it in one of your episodes, but I’ve forgotten the entire premise and context. I can’t seem to find the episode. It’s okay, though. I’ve created my own understanding of it. It would be fantastic to delve deeper into this concept in your new platform. Thank you (and your guest) once again for the gift of a wonderful label for an awesome feeling.
The lonesome dove tv show was for me, one of those that you watch a little too young bc your parents are into it, and it was a very wild experience! Hookers and snakes and scalpings and one of the best bad guys, and so quotable (in our household at least). Legendary work by the whole cast. I hope it holds up and hope you watch it Dan!
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is the best adult comedy of all time!
Loved the episode with Judd. Felt like such a comfortable conversation, and my favorite bit was him sharing Ron Howard's art gallery approach to his career--that was a perspective shifting little gem for me.
I really love the freedom this new platform gives you to connect with us in a new more flexible and open way. Onward…forward! 😊🪷
Thank you! It’s really fun.

I might have to give Lonesome Dove another look. I love these Friday posts! Keep them coming.

I have it on my nightstand—it’s been there for years.

Thanks, Gary! I believe it was in the Devon Berry episode.

Is this really the Rolling Stones? It sounds like "Mick" says "ya'll" at one point. I am skeptical!

Agree. LD is the best !
Lonesome Dove was one of my favorite all time books but I haven't read it in years. Loved the Berrybender Narratives series by Larry McMurtry too.
Paul Rudd is my favorite character in that movie!
I just listened to Lonesome Dove a couple of months ago myself and totally enjoyed after having avoided it for the same reason. Great find.
