Happy Friday, my fellow suffering beings. Each week, I share two things I’m digging right now—books, TV shows, movies, music, and the like—plus one online video of nearly zero cultural merit.
Zef: The Story of Die Antwoord (Amazon Prime). Like many music fans who saw this rap outfit’s videos go viral around 2010, my first thought was: Who the fuck are these people? Since then, to the extent that I thought about them, I always assumed they were batshit. But this stylish doc paints them in an entirely different light. Theirs is a story about perseverance, parenting, and creativity. It’s also about the masks we all wear.
Dazy, IT’S ONLY A SECRET (if you repeat it). This three-song EP from this fuzz-rock solo outfit hits many of my aesthetic sweet spots.
And finally… making LinkedIn hilarious:
Oh, actually… one more thing…
If you’re interested in studying with some amazing meditation teachers, these upcoming virtual courses at Spirit Rock Meditation Center might be of interest. All of these teachers have been on my pod, and I fully endorse:
Matthew Brensilver: Buddhist Psychology Training
Vinny Ferraro: A Year to Live
Kaira Jewel Lingo: Insight Meditation Retreat
Cara Lai: Steadying the Heart
Ofosu Jones-Quartey: BIPOC Voices: Weekly Sunday Sangha
Subscribers can comment on this and all my other posts. You can also chat with me, my staff, pod guests, and one another—about podcast episodes + whatever else I feel like discussing. Plus: podcast cheatsheets (with time-stamped highlights + full transcripts), live-streamed meditation sessions, and live video AMAs. Join the party.
These Friday postings are such a gift. Bright spot in an otherwise dark week. Thanks Dan!
Thanks for sharing some non election content. Just an idea, it would be great to have a permanent page of resources for courses and books you / guests recommend (unless that already exists...?). Also retreats for those based in Europe!
