Happy Friday, my fellow suffering beings. Each week, I share two things I’m digging right now (books, TV shows, movies, music, and the like) plus one online video of nearly zero cultural merit.
Get Millie Black on Max. This five-part mystery series, about a Scotland Yard detective who returns to her native Jamaica to solve cases, is outstanding.
Brett Eldredge, Merry Christmas (Welcome to the Family). I’m not generally a fan of either country music or Christmas music—so why am I recommending a Christmas record from a country singer? Well, first because Brett is a great friend. We’ve done a couple meditation retreats together, and he once taught my son how to eat a chicken wing in one bite. (He’s also been on my podcast.) But on top of all of that, I genuinely enjoy this warm and tuneful record—especially the duet with Kelly Clarkson.
Theo Von hilariously captures the nonnegotiable truth.
Some housekeeping: If you’re looking for an opportunity to learn from one of the greatest living western meditation teachers, here it is. My friend Tara Brach is putting on a yearlong online course. Highly recommended.
Oh, and one last thing: I dropped an experimental podcast episode today and I’m curious what you think. Executive Producer DJ Cashmere and I talk about what's been going on behind the scenes since I left the app I co-founded. I started a chat on danharris.com. Smash the button below and give me some feedback, please.
Subscribers can comment on this and all my other posts. You can also chat with me, my staff, pod guests, and one another—about podcast episodes + whatever else I feel like discussing. Plus: podcast cheatsheets (with time-stamped highlights + full transcripts), live-streamed meditation sessions, and live video AMAs. Join the party.
I buy records like I buy wine, by how cool the label is, and Brett’s cover is awesome! Thanks for the reco, added a couple of those tunes to my Holidaze playlist!
Binging Get Millie Black right now! Great series! Dan - have you watched Dark Winds or Rez Dogs? Great shows from newer voices.
