First of all, thank you so much for putting this together at the right time. Unfortunately, I missed Sunday’s meditation, but I’ve already reserved a 30-minute break on my work calendar to join you and others today, Monday. I’ve also decided to disconnect from some apps and other social media platforms in an effort to isolate the noise that might exacerbate my stress.
Speaking of stress, I’d like to share a recent experience: I was getting ready for work earlier this morning, and while I was in the shower, I started having the usual cacophony of thoughts related to the election, the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, where I basically pictured myself having arguments with people on these different topics. I then realized that my heartbeat, and perhaps my blood pressure, went through the roof. My immediate reaction was to laugh at it because I realized that in reality, I was in the shower, not in those hypothetical scenarios. That struck me as the true definition of mindfulness, which is well summarized by the title of Van Halen’s song, “Right Here, Right Now”. After this brief epiphany, I concluded that it is not the outcome of the election or the current conflicts in other parts of the globe that are causing me stress, but my own mind!
Anyways, I hope to join you and the gang in a few hours.
Thank you for this. I was standing in line to vote (2 hours 5 minutes) during this Live session. Everyone was amazingly calm and yet somber the whole time as we had all committed to be there. Have done what I can. Now, I'm letting go of the outcome since it is something I cannot control. So grateful for these sessions all week long! Lots of love to everyone ❤️❤️❤️
